Boom Barriers for Parking & Access Control

A boom barrier is the cheapest part of an access system to buy and the easiest to buy wrong. The specification that decides whether it survives year two is duty cycle — rated operations per hour, continuously, without thermal cutout.

A society gate might see 400 operations a day. A mall entry lane can see that before lunch. Both get sold the same barrier at the same price, and only one of them is still working eighteen months later.

Specification

  • Rated for high daily cycle counts
  • Loop detector + photocell anti-crash protection
  • Battery fallback keeps lanes moving through outages
  • Straight, folding and fencing arm options

Where it's deployed

  • Mall and retail entry lanes
  • Corporate and IT park gates
  • Residential society entrances
  • Hospital and emergency access
  • Toll and transit lanes
  • Industrial and warehouse yards

Boom Barrier — common questions.

The questions buyers actually ask us. Ask them of every vendor who quotes you — the answers separate integrators from box-sellers.

Ask us something else
Prices vary widely with duty cycle, arm length, and whether safety systems and battery backup are included or quoted as extras. Cheap barriers are usually light-duty units sold into heavy-duty sites. Ask for the rated operations-per-hour figure and compare it against your measured peak, not your daily average — the average is what kills specifications.
As a rough guide: light-duty below roughly 300 daily cycles, mid-duty for most corporate campuses and societies, high-duty for retail and transit lanes. If a vendor cannot tell you the duty cycle of what they are selling, they have not examined it.
Two, and both should be standard rather than upsold: loop detectors that hold the arm open while a vehicle is underneath, and photocells that reverse the arm if the beam breaks during descent. An arm descending onto a vehicle is a liability event.
Without battery fallback the barrier becomes a physical obstruction and a queue forms in under a minute — a weekly problem in most Indian deployments, not a hypothetical. Specify battery backup rated for a few hundred operations, plus a manual release.

Rarely deployed alone.
